IML JUDGES

A couple of weeks ago I ran into a young gay man while on a camping trip. The young man, 19 to be exact, in the course of a conversation that went well off track, stated that he did not want his 4-year old nephew to see two men holding hands in public, because he didn’t want him to “go through that”. I’m not sure if he thinks you can catch gay or what.

He also stated that he didn’t believe in gay marriage because the majority of American SOCIETY is “religious” and SOCIETY doesn’t approve. Having had a crappy weekend already…and too much wine…I got out of the Jacuzzi and onto my soapbox, managing to get angry enough to shatter a plastic wine glass…fortunately not over his head.

One of the things this 19-year old, self-loathing young man asked me was, if I had a choice, would I be gay. My answer? Absolutely! And I do have a choice. So do all of you.

You have a choice to be proud of who you are.

You have a choice to demand equality…for everyone.

You have a choice to FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHTS!

And you have a choice of where to sit on the bus.

To this young man, and to those like him, I have this to say:

Stay on the back of the bus, because I’m heading to the front and you are just standing in my way.

Ladies and Gentlemen, be safe, be sane, be consensual, and above all, be healthy.

Thank you.
